Spooky? Scary? PURPLE LIPS? Why, yes. And it looks damn good.
Perhaps its the world purple that scares people. Its not a very sexy word and it conjures images of a giant, moldy and purple chicken nugget by the name Grimace. But rest assured, the words amethyst, eggplant, indigo, lavender, lilac, magenta, fuchsia, mulberry, orchid, plum, pomegranate, puce, royal, thistle, violet, wine - they all mean purple so if it helps to say you want to experiment with orchid lipstick in order to keep your friends from referring to you the Marilyn Manson of the group (not that there’s anything wrong with that), then by all means, use a nicer sounding description of the hue.
So, no one wants to resemble the Hot Topic teen (unless of course, you are a Hot Topic teen), but for those who are not afraid to mix a little edge to their image, purple (er, ~*amethyst*~) lips are an excellent theme to explore. The color was declared a spring/summer makeup trend, but who was really going to sport deep violet lips when bright oranges and corals were the rave? A misplaced trend in my opinion, violet belongs with the cold >:)
I went digging for images of very doable, not so mall gawth looks for inspiration and in my search, I came to a conclusion - Its difficult to wear a deep purple lip and not look like you belong in a haunted house or part of Elvira’s entourage, but if you want to brave the world of lipstick or dare a purple gloss, go big or go home. Point blank. Dabbing it on, creating a tint or wearing a sheer gloss of the wrong hue in this shade is going to leave you looking as though you died of asphyxiation and are now the walking dead; A look that is only flattering if in fact, you aimed to look like a zombie. Tread carefully, but I have to say that its a look that is absolutely STUNNING when pulled off.
Apply it rich and with a heavy hand. Don’t be afraid! Here are a few images I collected to serve as inspiration and hopefully, convince someone into thinking a lovely violet really isn’t as scary as Halloween.
Red Lashes!
MAC makeup artist Javier Romero went full-force ahead for Katie Gallagher’s spring ‘12 presentation, giving lashes a dramatic boost with bright red mascara, a little red eyeliner, and matching cherry lips to boot. Romero actually created the red-hued mascara using blend of MAC Pro Lash mascara, a mixing medium, and MAC Pro Basic Red Pigment.

Jayro finally brought the camera! Only thing was, I only got to take one good clear picture of the look before it ran out of battery :( This hot & humid weather is kicking my ass though, and there is no way in hell I’d photograph a look after being in the Florida sun.
I decided to pick up my can of Dior Airflash. My poor little can was abandoned as I was busy experimenting with different foundations but I’m glad I kept it around. Now that I’m a tad more sun-kissed, the coloring is absolutely perfect, however, Dior REALLY needs to get on expanding their color selection. I use the lightest shade of Airflash available and it’s not very light.
The interesting thing about Airflash is that it oxidizes….A LOT. It goes on a very light color but dries much darker. The finish is velvety, beautiful and flawless, but if you’re very pale or very cool-toned, this foundation is definitely not for you.
Tip: I’ve found that Bare Minerals’ Mineral Veil is an instant foundation oxidizer. I’m not sure what’s in it that does this, but if you want to make sure that you’ve got an excellent match, apply Mineral Veil over any foundation and watch, instant oxidizing. Like most mineral powders however, it is tad drying, so make sure to moisturize.
Despite this foundation’s amazing appearance, it was melting off in the middle of the day and I RAN to MAC to find a good melty-face-prevention powder. I settled for MAC Blot Powder and….. I love it. I really, truly do. It kept my face fresh and sweat-free for the rest of the day. Best part? I got compliments at the MAC counter for my makeup! It does encourage me when skilled people have something to say about something I do. I also treated myself to some Ardell Accent Lashes #301 - haven’t tried them yet, but definitely will this weekend!
Speaking of disgusting weather, I can’t be bothered to style my hair with this humidity. It’s pointless. I tend to blowdry and flat iron my hair, but to be frank, the effort is not worth the outcome considering how frizzy, sweaty and destroyed my hair will be the minute I step outside. Solution? A BKT sounds like it would be AMAZING right about now, but I don’t have the cash to shell out for one, so I’m going the Organix 30 Day Brazilian Keratin Treatment route sometime this week. Updates to come…
red, gold & black - i realized i didnt put it on this blog ;)
NASTY FUCKING PIMPLES.
I’m not sure what I’m doing differently thats causing these gnarly breakouts, but they’re happening and they need to go NOW. These disgusting little things are rearing their revolting little white heads and driving me insane.

I’m trying Zapzyt at the moment. It’s a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide treatment gel that applies more like a cream. I also restarted my DDF 5% glycolic acid facial wash and I NEED to pass by Sally’s sometime soon to pick up a jar of Queen Helene’s Mint Julep Mask. Maybe THAT’S what I’m missing.

In the meantime, thank god for Makeup Forever’s concealer palette. The green concealer is phenomenal at hiding breakout. I mean it, this stuff is SERIOUS and it doesn’t appear cakey, nor does it dry out. It just makes having breakouts a little more managable.
Navy Smokes
1. Brow Bone -Light neutral matte shadow
2. Lid - Silver shimmer eyeshadow
3. Outer Lid - Taupe matte shadow - I realize it looks brown in the picture, but rest assured it also pulls gray!
4. Crease Base - Purple smoke matte shadow - This is a very bright color and while it may seem counter intuitive to use such a bright color for a smokey look, it creates a great base for the next color:
5. Crease Base Deeper - Navy matte shadow - On the 88 colors palette, this color appears purple but it goes on navy. Great color deposit!
6. Crease Deepest - MAC Carbon shadow - applied first with my Sephora angled brush (no number for reference) for that tight fit closest to the tearduct, then fanned out with a mac 239 brush.
7. Winged Liner & Water line - I prefer to use gel liner to liquid & pencil
